Expectations for Tonga's rugby league team have never been higher. Christian Wolff's squads are looking to build on his famous 2017 World Cup breakthrough and write their own unique piece of rugby league history.

 In 2017, they came one step closer to reaching the World Cup final after victories over Samoa and New Zealand, aided by the departures of Jason Taumarolo, Andrew Fifita, and Shiosiua Taukeiaho.

 In June 2022, Tonga returned to the international rugby league after getting a victory over New Zealand in Auckland by a score of 26-6.

Wales started their group stage opening game in Lee against the Cook Islands and will play their next games against Tonga and Papua New Guinea.

In 2018, they played their first international match against France, where they lost the match in Albi by a score of 34-10.

Since 2000, they have not qualified for the group stages in past world cups.
