Super Rugby Pacific 2022 Revised Schedule
The Super Rugby Pacific 2022 revised schedule has been revealed today by Joint venture partners Australian Rugby Team (RA) and New Zealand Rugby Team (NZR). The previous draw became unsustainable due to border restrictions and isolation requirements for entry into New Zealand. The Season opening match will take place between Moana Pasifika VS Blues on 18 February 2022 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.
On the same day, the tournament will start on Australian soil where Waratahs will fight against Fijian Drua, as a Super Saturday will begin in New Zealand where Highlanders will compete with Chiefs in Hamilton at the time 4:35 pm. The Crusaders will host the Hurricanes at 7.05 pm in Christchurch.
The revised schedule will keep the same format as the single scoring and full round tournament announced in November, however, six teams from New Zealand and six teams from Australia will take part in their first eight games on different sides of Tasman due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
All 12-teams will meet in round 10 for the Super round in Melbourne, where an unprecedented celebration of the ANZAC spirit will take place, and the trans-Tasman event will recommence on Round 11 (April 29th - May 1st).
The revised draw keeps the same key elements as the original draw. During a regular season, each team will participate in 14 games, 11 round robins, and three extra rivalry matches in which each team will play home and away games against each other.
One of the special features of the draw is a Family-friendly afternoon game, which plays a total of 23 games per day, ten of which are playing in New Zealand. Themed rounds in honor of the Rugby round, Culture Round, and Heritage Round are also planned, with the new dates and other details confirmed early next year.
All teams still have a bye week in Round 7, Round 8, or Round 9, giving all teams a great chance to boost as they make their final push for a place in the Grand Final. All 91 games will live broadcast on Sky, with an eight-team playoff series that will begin in the first week of June.
