Moana Pasifika's Super rugby Pacific debut was once again on hold due to the postponement of this weekend's game against the Chiefs.

On Tuesday, New Zealand Rugby (NZR) announced that the second round of Super Rugby Pacific, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon in Queenston, was postponed due to player welfare issues.

Moana Pasifika isn't ready to return to action following the Covid-19 outbreak at her camp, which led to the cancellation of their second and final pre-season game against the Highlanders and the postponement of their opening game against the Blues.

Anyway, their game against the Chiefs has been postponed for two days, originally scheduled for Friday night in Dunedin, but Super Rugby Pacific Medical Advisory Group called on Tuesday to review the team's return plan and suggested a further postponement of the game.

Originally there were seven positive cases of Covid at the Moana Pasifika camp. Although, coach Aaron Mauger revealed on Monday that the number was actually "much higher", with 15 players in isolation at their Queenstown hotel.

Moana Pasifika's first group of players came out of isolation to resume field training on Sunday, but New Zealand's league and league chief Cameron Good said the postponement was "the only responsible decision".

All fans want to see Moana Pasifika on the pitch, and we're looking at all possibilities this weekend, including the postponement of the Chiefs game two days before Sunday," he said in a statement.

However, we are not interested to negotiate player safety and wellbeing, so in the end, this was an easy decision. We are still on our promise to re-scheduling two postponed Moana Pasifika matches.
